Idea #21: Inclusive community-based instruction

Another idea from You’re Going to Love This Kid!

If your students really need community-based instruction, they need not miss out on their inclusive education in order to get it. Look for regular opportunities for all students to go into the community to engage in real-world mathematics (e.g., calculating percentages at a grocery store), serve others, job shadow, explore community resources, and engage in project-based instruction.

Some students can walk to some of these experiences. In other cases, small heterogeneous groups of students may need to take turns learning away from the classroom.
